The nonsense of the Green New Deal

On the off chance you don't believe that the Democratic Party has gone off its rocker, or at least the ones who have thrown their hat in the ring for their party's presidential nomination in 2020, please read about the Green New Deal authored by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her allies and look who is in support of it; Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, Jeff Merkeley, Julian Castro, Kirsten Gillibrand, Bernie Sanders, Tulsi Gabbard, to name a few.

A summary of the six-page proposal includes a ban on fossil fuels and nuclear energy (nuclear power generation currently fills 19 percent of our power demand and in combination with coal and natural gas meets 82 percent of our electric power consumption), eliminating 99 percent of cars, (substituting rail/public transportation), upgrading or replacing every building in the U.S. with state-of-the-art energy efficiency, eliminating air travel, (you might want to inquire how the bridge to Hawaii or Puerto Rico will be constructed so that battery-powered cars can get you there), a state-secured job, guaranteed income for those "unwilling" to work, a free education, a salubrious diet, a quality outdoor experience and elimination of meat.

Oh, by the way, all the above to be accomplished in 10 years.

If you think this is an exaggeration, please do read the GDR press release announcing the launch of the plan.

The real frightening part is not that AOC and her partners published this plan, but the extraordinary number of supposedly intelligent, educated people that support this nonsense.
