Sad column mocking transgender people

Walter E. Williams' recent "opinion" column mocking transgender people and saying their existence isn't real was one of the saddest, most heartbreaking things I've ever read. I couldn't believe my hometown paper published a column that was meant to sow hatred and intolerance. Mocking other human beings is never OK, but just to set the record straight, gender is not determined simply by XY chromosomes. It's actually a very complex interplay of genes, chromosomes and brain chemistry. The fact is that gender has always existed on a broad spectrum. Transgender people face enough hatred, bullying and discrimination. This column was just another example.
