'Going Green' another scam

I just read the article about Aurora contemplating having a solar farm built on 20 acres of land. It's supposed to save them $1 million over 20 years. Is that before or after the company building it (Ameresco) recoups its costs? From what I've read, 20 acres of solar panels is enough to supply energy to only a few average-size homes. So which of the city of Aurora's buildings use that much energy in 20 years? Perhaps turning off the lights when you leave a room might be a better way to save energy? Better insulation? Fewer electrical equipment? There are many energy producers offering "green energy" to Illinois residents. None of them have a lower cost than ComEd. So much for "savings".

This "go green" ploy sounds just like the "go nuclear" scam foisted upon our state 40 years ago. We were promised low-cost energy because nuclear power plants only needed to be refueled every few decades. Well, Illinois isn't even in the top 10 least costly power generating states in the nation. Massachusetts, the other state that was also scammed, isn't either. This is in spite of the ICC stating Illinois power companies have over 50 percent excess generating capacity.

I guess that's why the ICC granted the power company's request to shut down two power plants and sell off the remaining excess capacity to other states' residents - at market rates. Any chance we consumers will see a benefit from those actions? I guess the "supply and demand" theory that an oversupply is supposed to drive down costs doesn't work for electricity, huh?

The only one benefiting from the "go green" scam are those who believe the public is stupid enough to be fooled - again.
