Harper exemplifies the lack of transparency in government

I am astounded that even though Illinois was recently deemed the highest property taxing state in the nation, our trustees over at Harper College are asking us again to remortgage our future with a new $180 million in loans that conveniently equals the loan we're almost done paying.

As a taxpayer, I'm tired of the lies and half truths that have put Illinois on the verge of bankruptcy. We need a new direction where taxpayers can get the transparency we deserve. This is a personal plea to the trustees of Harper College to ease the crushing tax burden on the average Illinois taxpayer. Do more with less.

Perhaps showing the bottom line savings for voting against these types of propositions would be a great first step, instead of the endless spin about how they won't raise my taxes year over year. There is no doubt property taxes need some rent controls.

Looking narrowly at Harper, this may only amount to $20-$50 a month per taxpayer, but if this much fluff is built into each of the 16 tax entities that make up my tax property bill every six months, would my bill really be closer to the 50 state average?

I'm a fan of strong public education, but let's make the process more transparent. I'm voting no because we deserve to get greater value without paying the highest tax rates in the country.
