Kids, home values all deserve a 'yes' vote

As a parent in District 21, a Realtor and an 18-year resident, I wanted to voice my opinion on the referendum up for vote in a few weeks.

In the innovative world we now live in, our children's education needs to adapt to prepare them for success - both for their next steps in education and for life.

Our district needs to compete with the adjoining districts to continue to improve our property values, so that in the long run the investment our families make in our neighborhoods will be right for their financial future as well as their children's education.

The way our kids are taught now should not be the same as 10 years ago. There have been significant advancement in technology. Sitting all day listening to a teacher go through a lesson plan should be supplemented with increased collaboration with other students. Just like how our society learns, communicates, and utilizes technology today, our education should implement this into the way our children are taught.

These improvements will make a difference in preparing our children (to) be competitive moving into college and beyond. Our children deserve an education ... that will help them excel in the real world.

One of the top priorities of the referendum is to provide this opportunity of modern education. This is exactly the type of learning I want for our kids - an education that keeps them engaged and excited to learn, in a community we are all still proud to be a part of.

I am well aware of what buyers are looking for, and their #1 choice for the investment in a home is a school. District 21 needs to stay competitive and provide everything they can to continue to grow our awesome community.

Voting yes for this referendum will allow our schools to improve so our children are prepared for success.
