Good Samaritans deserve recognition

My husband and I, both in our mid-70s, had a blowout on the TriState Tollway near Route 22 around 9 p.m. on Sept. 21. While we were frantically attempting to call for help, a work truck with lights flashing pulled up behind us. A woman approached our car and asked what our problem was. She looked at our flat tire and said, "My co-worker and I will help you." The two of them then proceeded to crawl under our car, jack it up, remove our flat and put on our spare tire - all of this with traffic whizzing past them at high speed.

We were extremely grateful for this help and attempted to pay them. They refused. In the heat of the moment, we neglected to get their names, their vehicle number or any other identifying information. The only information we have is that they were from a company contracted by IDOT to clean the sewers along the tollway.

We have attempted to contact IDOT to try to identify these good Samaritans. They deserve recognition for their kindness and willingness to help a couple of seniors in need. I hope we can find them, but whether we do or not, it is a story worth sharing. In this time of dissension and acrimony, it is very reassuring to know that there are still good and decent people out there. We will forever remember them with a grateful heart and we will be sure to pay it forward should the opportunity arise.
