Oppose dangerous bills on tax increases

Current pending legislation in the Illinois General Assembly has been kept a dark secret. Not surprisingly, it involves raising taxes.

First a proposed bill to raise property taxes 1 percent on market value, statewide, to pay down current deficits in the state pension fund. This pension fund has a 3 percent per year inflation increase even though inflation averaged 2 percent over the last nine years. Nothing in the state of Illinois has been more mismanaged. The homeowner, with a home valued at $200,000, will pay an added $2,000 a year in property taxes.

Second a proposed bill to tax car owners on the number of miles they drive per year. This on top of one of the highest taxes on gasoline in the nation. This tax would also apply to hybrids as well as electric vehicles.

These proposed bills are likely to go to vote in the next six months, probably after the November elections. Forewarned is forearmed. I recommend all voters oppose and notify both current and new candidates of your opposition. If anything will destroy the state of Illinois and drive more residents away this will.
