Make children a priority in election

On Saturday, Aug. 25, state Sen. Michael Connelly will be holding an annual "Children's Safety Expo" to provide free information for parents to keep our kids safe. Sen. Connelly's involvement is hypocritical given his voting record on issues of children's' safety and health.

Sen. Connelly has consistently opposed legislation that protects children from gun violence, illness and abuse and neglect. He has taken large contributions from the Illinois Firearms Manufacturing Association and voted against responsible gun reforms. He voted "no" on the All Kids health care program, which provides doctor visits and vision and dental care to low-income children. He voted against increasing counseling services for abused children. And, he voted against making sure that, despite budget gridlock, Illinois pays for services to neglected children.

I want legislators to keep our kids safe, not just hold events. In November, I will vote for a candidate who will walk the walk. Laura Ellman is that candidate.

A mom of high schoolers in public school, she supports common sense reforms to reduce gun violence and protect children wherever they go in Illinois. As state senator, she will work to protect services for our most vulnerable while increasing school and university funding. Laura Ellman is my candidate, because she will truly make our children a priority.
