Scrutinize court nominee closely

It is important to pay attention to this nomination of Brett Kavanaugh for Supreme Court as it is one of the highest stakes for our country and the future for those concerned about voting rights and social justice and for people with chronic health problems who need insurance and apply for it as individuals or who have children with chronic health problems, for schoolchildren and teachers who should not have to be fearful of being shot by assault rifles while in classrooms.

But there are many, many issues that will come before the Supreme Court and knowing how this man's views and his role in making the decisions that will impact the well-being, health, equality and ability of people to live their lives is of utmost importance.

Of course, Brett Kavanaugh will not openly state his views on these many issues that are so important to every person in this country and so important to those who do not have big and powerful corporate voices. He is being tutored well on what to say and what not to say.

But his past decisions on the court can give hints at where he comes down and in fact his written opinion on the voter ID law of South Carolina is such a clue.

It is urgent that constituents call their senators and request that they scrutinize this nominee.

Because the Senate does not have to approve this nomination if the nomination was made just for political reasons or in self-interest, and indeed there are elections just a few months away.

Why not wait till after the elections, after all the Senate has done that before?

This nominee has been selected by a president who may have his own dubious reasons for this selection and it therefore requires much caution and closer scrutiny.
