Politics, business and running a golf course

If there ever was a reason for politicians to prove they cannot run a business, all we have to do is look at the Preserve at Oak Meadows and the commissioners that run this course. The fire that destroyed the clubhouse was insured for about $7 million, which instead of the commissioners putting the money in an account, they used about $5.5 million for operating expenses and other things.

President Joseph Cantore wants to now spend over $9 million to build a new clubhouse, which if they would have saved the $7 million, they would only be short about $2 million instead of the $9 million or so they need.

A businessman would lean back in his chair and say this course is a losing operation due to the fact there is $5.5 million or so more needed than the course takes in from the golfers. So he would sell it right away. But not the politicians. No, not them. They have the taxpayers and all they have to do is raise taxes.

Taxpayers, let's be smart and make the politicians sell the course they say they need more money than is brought in to operate, or if they are lying to us and the course is making money, then use the profits and build your stupid clubhouse and pat yourselves on the back.
