Don't glorify Civil War

Your article, "History comes to life" says that The Lakewood Forest Preserves re-enactment of a Civil War battle transformed it into a 19th century battlefield.

Although I wasn't there, I respectfully disagree. Did it show the blood? Did it show the heartache and suffering by families of victims from both sides of that terrible conflict?

Of course it didn't. How could it?

There is a fascination with the Civil War unlike any other war in our history. Re-enactments take place all over the country.

The Civil War is unique because it was American against American and sometimes brother against brother. It is an important part of our history and should never be forgotten.

And it should never be glamorized.
