Our political glass is half full
Everyone's complaining. All I hear is cynical bellyaching over the state of America and the incompetence of its leaders as constantly reported by media, both electronic and social. You know what I'm talking about: the disgruntlement (yes, that's a word) of our G-7 partners, immigration policy, foreign trade issues plus festering sores like Iran, Syria and China. To quote Jerry Seinfeld, "Who are these people?"
Let's step back, count our blessings and find some perspective. America is still the world's richest country. Amid our government- induced angst, don't overlook the glaring silver lining before your eyes.
I am referring, of course, to the mother lode of editorial cartoon fodder supplied, however unwittingly, by President Donald Trump. Kim Jong Un, et al. That's right: satirical materiel to combat the daily tedium wrought by today's 24-hour news cycle.
Saturday Night Live is reborn. Late night talk shows are on comedic cruise control, and workplace water-cooler commentary thrives.
Obsessed with Dow Jones? Don't be. There is a bull market on, well, bull (which is a good thing).
Who knew that bad head-of-state haircuts could be mined so skillfully by our editorial page cartoonists? Not since the days of President Richard M. Nixon have our caricature kings had so much to work with.
The glass is half-full, America. Stop whining.
