It's a people problem, not a gun problem

In response to the letter "How far must we go to get gun control?": The writer could have stopped writing when he penned, "Getting rid of hatred in the hearts of some of our fellow human beings ... " That is the problem; it's not guns. Most murders in this country are by blunt force injury. So unless you get rid of hatred, killing (which is illegal) will still be carried out. The majority of the people in this country want to see a reduction in violence. Who doesn't? But they don't want their rights confiscated.

And I say that because you can't write any laws that get rid of the evil in the hearts of men. As far as your comment, "One thing for certain, if you don't own a gun you will never be in a position to use a gun," it doesn't make sense. With that logic let's get rid of martial arts. All of the responsible members of the NRA don't want to be put in the position of having to use their guns. But like any black belt will tell you, "You train to protect yourself; you don't use martial arts to pick a fight," and that's what I do at the shooting range. Why don't we blame the car for fatal accidents? Because it's the drunk person driving the car that killed someone's child, not the car.

So again let's use logic. Guns don't kill people. People kill people.
