People want action
The results are in. People from Barrington and Palatine want more restrictions on access to assault weapons and high-capacity semi-automatic weapons; e.g., longer waiting periods, higher age for purchase and more thorough background checks. These people want our legislators to take action, but are aware that the financial support from groups like the NRA makes that difficult.
Over the last month, 500 people offered their names in support of this, including a number of gun owners. Names were collected by just three of us who worked several mornings from about 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. at the train stations. Less than 20 percent of those approached declined. Some because they were in a hurry and others because they did not support the cause.
We'll be sharing these names with those running for Congress in the 6th District and with the U.S. senators from Illinois in the hope that it will prompt them to act. Thanks to all who supported this effort.
