All brain and no heart
In a March 8 letter, Nancy Thorner addresses the Parkland, Florida, school shooting. First, she takes on liberals for what she implies is their knee-jerk reaction against the NRA. Then, she writes that knives, hands and feet are apparently more dangerous as a source for homicides than are rifles.
I've always respected Nancy Thorner for her well-reasoned and factually complete letters to the Daily Herald. She clearly knows her subjects and writes about them well. But, then as to the Parkland, Florida, shooting, Nancy concludes by asking why any of us should "sit up and pay heed to the emotional reactions of teenagers to their own school shooting?" That certainly is a very coldhearted analysis of this awful tragedy.
I only wish that Nancy Thorner's heart and sense of caring and compassion were as well developed as are her brain and considerable command of facts and reasoning skills.
