Support District 57 athletics with 'yes' vote

I was one of the many volunteers at the Mount Prospect Public Library Foundation's fundraiser event, Mini Golf. The high school students from District 214, Prospect and Hersey, were a huge help with both setting up and taking down the 18 holes of golf.

Having volunteered in prior years, I can attest to how tiring it can be to bend, stoop, gather, and lift the heavy golf course pieces, and then drag them to a central location. The young men were quiet, polite and followed the instructions of the staff member coordinating the set up and take down.

The students were from the football, track and wrestling teams, and many were District 57 graduates. The parents of these athletes have done a great job raising community minded, polite young men.

Then I started thinking, "What if the District 57 referendum does not pass?" Fees for sports will rise, perhaps beyond what a parent can afford, especially given that other fees also rise.

What will happen to the football, track and wrestling teams? Will there be a drastic decrease? Will we have these students in our community to do the same wonderful volunteering at Mini Golf in the future?

That is one more reason why I voted "yes" for the District 57 referendum. I want the current and future students to have the opportunity to participate in sports without a heftier fee.

Please vote YES to help ensure we have continued opportunities for our athletes!
