Let's move on from agenda of wealthy
Gov. Bruce Rauner spent $65 million in the race for the 2015 election. Of that, $28 million came from personal funds. That left $37 million in donations from … where?
Citadel hedge fund billionaire Kenneth Griffin gave $5.5 million and put his private plane at Mr. Rauner's disposal. Richard Uihlein contributed $2.6 million. Much of the rest was reportedly from individuals - likely from the 136 other wealthy families who are financing many state-level elections across the country in order to promote anti-union, anti-regulation, free market policies that just happen to benefit them more than the rest of us.
Rauner's PAC has spent millions portraying Michael Madigan as Moriarty. The ads make sure Madigan always looks scary.
Rauner also created the ad that featured Indiana, Missouri and Wisconsin governors thanking Illinois for the jobs they supposedly poached. Those governors are well-known spokespersons for the same network of ultra-rich conservatives that support our governor. I don't think the ads won hearts and minds in Illinois before getting pulled because of Gov. Greiten's indiscretions. Good riddance, not seeing those three smirking at me through the TV is a big relief.
Gov. Rauner obviously feels that compromise is something for the small folk, not him, and that our rejection of his out-of-touch agenda (the conservative ultra-wealthy agenda) was due to our childlike ignorance. Still, driving down wages, reducing pensions, ignoring polluters and starving social services just doesn't sound that appealing. It's time to move on and move forward.
