GOP has its own swamp creatures

President Donald Trump has often promised to "drain the swamp" of Washington government. Does he understand how many of the swamp creatures come from his own party?

The party of my father, and once my party, championed fiscal responsibility. With the start of the Iraq War, and with Republicans controlling both arms of Congress and the presidency, Republicans championed a multiyear conflict, built upon lies, which has cost taxpayers more than $2.4 trillion and thousands of lives to date.

Fast forward to today: another Republican president and Congress want to overspend on tax cuts to business by $1.4 trillion over 10 years, based on voodoo economic theory which has been debunked a multiple times since the 1800s. Those two Republican swamp creature actions alone will comprise 20 percent of the budget deficit.

Contrast that to 10 years of health care provided by the Affordable Care Act with a cost significantly less than either of the above but with tangible benefits to our vulnerable citizens. This program provides life and health. Neither of the two Republican spending binges provides either.

I'm tired of the Republican swamp and the circuslike atmosphere in which they attempt to pass legislation - any legislation. Their menu of swamp delicacies are something they can't even get themselves to reach a consensus on.

That's why their bill authors hastily annotate the margin of their latest draft tax bill and gave it to members one hour ahead of voting. Pass it, fellow Republicans, but please don't read it. Sadly, they numbly obeyed.

What can we do? We can vote our local swamp creatures, Peter Roskam and Randy Hultgren, out of office and replace them with others who will think for themselves.
