The friend we needed

The recent Daily Herald article regarding FEMA's denial of benefits to victims of record flooding in several Illinois counties while approving help in some Wisconsin counties got me to thinking about the 2016 election cycle. Illinois' "Republican" governor, Bruce Rauner, became the poster boy for Never Trumpers in the Midwest. As I recall, not only did he not back his party's legitimate nominee for president, he went so far as to not even mention President Trump's name during the election. One has to wonder how FEMA's decision making process might have been affected if Illinois had had a friend in the White House as Wisconsin did.
