Ludicrous to link sugar tax, health concerns
While the premise of Michael Bloomberg's ad regarding the adverse effects of sugar on children is spot on, the fact that Toni Preckwinkle uses it as an excuse to increase Cook County taxes instead of "cleaning house" and getting rid of excessive expenditures is ludicrous.
I noticed in the ad the children all seem to be of an age where their parents should be overseeing their intake of sugary foods (not just drinks) and taking responsibility for their children's health and attitudes toward eating healthy with sugary foods being an occasional treat and not an everyday part of their diets.
So, instead of taxing the public, Toni Preckwinkle (if her concern truly is the welfare of children) should be pushing parental responsibility.
If politicians really want respect, it is time for them to act responsibly and not treat the public as if we aren't smart enough to see through the facade.
