Reflejos garners eight national awards from NAHP

The National Association of Hispanic Publications, held its 40th annual convention Nov. 16 and Reflejos was recognized with eight outstanding awards.

Reflejos competes with a field of 242 other media outlets, across the United States and Puerto Rico, that are the informational sources for the growing Hispanic communities.

"This was quite an honor and appreciated recognition of our efforts to continually bring informative content to the readers we have served for 32 years,' said Linda Siete, manager of Reflejos, which is part of Daily Herald Media Group. "Information is imperative for many who may be unfamiliar with how to access local and national information that could affect their jobs, their taxes, the school districts that they reside in or the entertainment venues available for families to enjoy. Our job is make sure that kind of information is presented in both our print editions, online and even on our Facebook page.

"Three of the awards this year recognized our annual College and Career Guides," Siete added, "which is a key niche for Reflejos, as our focus has always been on bringing educational opportunities bilingually to our readers and connecting our colleges to all our communities. Readers then can fully avail themselves of training and employment options, which can assist them and their families in creating the life and careers so many work to attain. Being bilingual has also assisted Reflejos in reaching all members of a household, as well as students in classrooms, which creates more engagement and cultural understanding."

Working with the Daily Herald Media Group, three awards were for articles written by Daily Herald staff writers, who cover many of the topics important to Reflejos readers.
