Pro polo tournament coming to suburbs

OSWEGO - The inaugural Midwest Open polo competition is coming to the Chicago area, bringing more public accessibility and exposure to the "Sport of Kings," organizers say.

The Aug. 7 event brings the highest level of polo play to the Midwest since 1979, according to the Las Brisas Polo Club.

For 20 years, Arranmore Farm + Polo Club, 34 Rance Road in Oswego, existed exclusively as a private, family-owned and operated farm and polo club. Now the family is working with Las Brisas to share this 150-acre facility with the public as Las Brisas Arranmore.

"Our vision is to be the premier polo facility in the Midwest by providing a first-class experience for players, members, sponsors and spectators. This event will showcase both the sport's untapped mass appeal and everything our grounds has to offer," said Larry Aschebrook, founder of the Las Brisas Polo Club.

Las Brisas Polo Club will host the United States Polo Association Midwest Open, bringing players from all over the country to compete for the $50,000 purse. For tickets and details, visit www.arranmorefarmandpoloclub.com.
