New Dunkin' coming this summer to Itasca

A new Dunkin' location is expected to open this summer in a former fast-food restaurant in Itasca.

Itasca trustees on Tuesday night unanimously approved a plan to open the doughnut shop in a 2,800-square-foot former Burger King at 351 North Rohlwing Road. The location will be one of the first Dunkin' franchises in the Midwest to have two drive-through windows, one for accepting payments and the other for delivering food to customers.

"It's been a long time coming," owner Amir Habib said. "But I'm very happy that we are finally going to get started."

Habib purchased the single-story building in October 2019. He owns several Dunkin' locations in the suburbs, including Roselle, Elk Grove, Wood Dale and Elmhurst.

The Itasca location is expected to hire up to 25 employees.

Mayor Jeff Pruyn said that a national brand at the site will be good for the village.

"That building was starting to look tired and worn," Pruyn said. "It's been vacant for so long, so it's nice to finally have something going in there."

The location is expected to have a dine-in option available as well, with up to 12 seats inside of the restaurant. Habib said he expects to see more use from the drive-through.

Dunkin' has been growing in 2020 and is planning to open new locations throughout the state, including a Dunkin' and Baskin-Robbins restaurant combo in Round Lake that was announced last month.
