Executive appointments made at Edward-Elmhurst Health

WARRENVILLE - Dr. Daniel Sullivan, most recently chief medical officer of Elmhurst Hospital, has been appointed chief physician executive for Edward-Elmhurst Health, a system in Chicago's West and Southwest suburbs that includes Edward Hospital in Naperville, Elmhurst Hospital and Linden Oaks Behavioral Health.

Sullivan assumes the position previously held by Dr. Sanjeeb Khatua, who was announced as president/CEO of Unity Point Clinic, a division of the UnityPoint Health System in Iowa, in December.

In addition, Dr. Kimberley Darey replaces Sullivan as chief medical officer of Elmhurst Hospital. Darey had been medical director of the Elmhurst Hospital Family Birthing Center.

In his new role, Sullivan will provide leadership and oversight for quality and physician engagement across the system to drive improvements in clinical outcomes, quality, efficiency and patient experience. Sullivan is also president of Edward Health Ventures.

Sullivan, who is board-certified in cardiology and interventional cardiology, joined the medical staff of Elmhurst Hospital in 1988. During his tenure, he has held many leadership positions, including chief of cardiology, Cath Lab director, chairman of internal medicine and president of the medical staff. He joined the administrative team as vice president and chief medical officer for Elmhurst Hospital in 2013 when Edward and Elmhurst hospitals merged.

Sullivan earned his medical degree from Rush University Medical Center. He completed his internship and residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center and completed his fellowship at Rush University Medical Center.

Darey, board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, has been on the medical staff at Elmhurst Hospital since 2010. In her role as medical director of the Family Birthing Center, which she began in 2015, she led physicians, nurses and other staff in the development and implementation of evidence-based best practices on the obstetrics unit and has been involved as a leader in ensuring quality practices in the OB-GYN department.

Darey earned her medical degree from the Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and completed her OB-GYN residency at Saint Joseph Hospital Chicago.
