Stan's Donuts considering move to Itasca

The site of the former Starbucks in Itasca could become home to a Stan's Donuts and Coffee.

Mayor Jeff Pruyn and Village Administrator Carie Anne Ergo confirmed they and village trustees met Nov. 24 with the owners of the site at 102 E. Irving Park Road to discuss the possibility of Stan's Donuts building there.

"I'm excited that they are interested in Itasca," Pruyn said Monday. "I think we would certainly be a nice fit, and that's exactly what the public is looking for in that space."

Starbucks stopped providing services at the location in August. Pruyn and other trustees were unhappy with the corporate decision to close, as it was still a profitable location.

Starbucks moved out in November and relocated to Wood Dale, where there is a higher volume of traffic for drive-through customers.

The Itasca location becomes available for rental by another tenant in December.

Stan's Donuts is a Chicago-area doughnut shop that began operating in 2014. Owner Rich Labriola confirmed his company is considering Itasca as a possible location but is in the beginning stages of negotiation.

Ergo said the Stan's in Itasca would also provide customers with a drive-through option.

She said village officials were intrigued by the proposal. Stan's has 12 locations, with a 13th in Orland Park set to open Saturday.
