Business Ledger receives top honors for design

The Daily Herald Business Ledger was honored for its design by the national Alliance of Area Business Publishers during its annual summer conference last week.

The monthly suburban business journal received the Silver Award for overall design in the small tabloids category. The award judges - members of the journalism faculty at the University of Missouri-Columbia - said the Business Ledger's "clean layout and elegant use of photography elevate this entry. Each issue begins with an informative cover and a good table of contents, and overall design is modular and easy to follow. Pullouts are helpful for those who scan pages. 'Best Places to Work' is a highlight, with

breakout packages and info boxes."

The annual AABP Editorial Excellence competition recognizes excellence in journalism, photography and design achieved by independent business publications across the country.

"It's humbling to be recognized by your peers and we are very appreciative of the honor," Business Ledger Editor Richard Klicki said. "The commitment and work of cover designer Brian Shamie, copy editor Rick Kirby and the rest of our team is reflected in the AABP judges' comments.

"The award also reaffirms our commitment to provide news and information that engages, enlightens and advocates the suburban business community."

The awards were presented at the conclusion of the virtual summer conference, which saw its attendance triple from previous years.
