Foundation raises $5K to help graduates, families
NORTH AURORA - The Fig Factor Foundation recently raised $5,000 for its Young Latina COVID-19 Emergency Fund to help 20 graduates and their families living in the United States and Mexico.
The fund was open to the foundation's Core Program Graduates ages 12 to 25 who experienced hardship due to COVID-19. They also submitted a 750-word essay describing their families' current situation and how they would use the funds.
Jacqueline S. Ruiz, the foundation's founder and president, was grateful for the donations from companies and individuals such as ComEd, Ponce Reyna Agency/Farmers Insurance and Leonor Gil.
"Many of our graduates and their families depend on these jobs to create stable and secure lives," she said. "I hope that the foundation's emergency fund can help them during this very difficult and precarious time."
