NuMark Credit Union honored for charitable work

JOLIET - NuMark Credit Union has won first place in the state and national competitions for the 2019 Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award for work with Northern Illinois Food Bank and support of Veterans and their families.

By working with Northern Illinois Food Bank, NuMark wants to help solve hunger in the community. The need is great: 1 in 7 people in NorthernIllinois rely on Northern Illinois Food Bank and their network of feeding services. On average our hungry neighbors visit their feeding programs 8 times per year. Northern Illinois Food Bank is able to provide $8 worth of nutritious food for every $1 theyreceive.

There are over 120,000 Homeless Veterans within the United States with under 8,000 funded beds available. As of January 2018, Illinois hadan estimated 10,643 residents experiencing homelessness on any given day, as reported by Continuums of Care to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Of that total, 804 were Veterans.

Throughout the year NuMark collected money, food items, volunteered their time, distributed food to Veterans and their families, participatedin community events and shared their story - all in the support of Northern Illinois Food Bank and this project. In addition, they have introduced a new member rewards program available to those who are Veterans or those who are serving in the active military. For every new veteran account, NuMark donates $10 to the Wreaths Across America project.
