Elmhurst man inducted into Hall of Fame

ELMHURST - Businessman, volunteer and military veteran William R. "Bill" Shanklin of Elmhurst will be honored as the 2019 inductee into the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce & Industry Civic Hall of Fame.

Shanklin will become the Hall of Fame's 28th member during the induction ceremony at the chamber's 101st Annual Awards Gala from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at The Drake Oak Brook Hotel in Oak Brook.

Shanklin has served Champion Container Corporation, formerly of Elmhurst, now in Wood Dale, as president since 2015 and as executive vice president and chief operating officer since 2002. He previously served tenures as president of Century Container Corporation and Illulmelex.

He is chairman of the city's Economic Development Commission; a Life Member at Elmhurst American Legion THB Post 187; a member of the city's Veterans Memorial Commission; and a member of the Elmhurst Memorial Parade Committee.
