More housing, brew pub coming to Elburn

A brewery and the construction of roughly 150 houses are among the new developments in Elburn to watch out for in 2020.

Village Administrator John Nevenhoven said both projects provide some firsts for the village.

A brew pub dubbed Obscurity is expected to open for business in the downtown area around May.

The village doesn't have any existing breweries.

"We're pretty excited about that one," Nevenhoven said.

The village recently amended its liquor ordinances to allow for brewing on site and the serving of what business establishments brew.

"We felt that was worthwhile," Nevenhoven said. "It will bring a new business to town. We're looking forward to having them open up."

"It's always a nice option to be able to try some brews on location," he said. "We've got a number of bars in town, but they'll be able to support something that's new, unique and different."

Another development will provide for the construction of homes on a roughly 75-acre site on the village's north side.

"The plan has been approved," Nevenhoven said. "It's not been annexed yet, but I expect that will happen probably in February or perhaps March."

Lennar Homes is looking to build about 150 homes, half of which will target those ages 55 and older and half of which are geared toward families.

The village currently does not have any new residential living communities geared specifically toward those ages 55 and older.

Nevenhoven said he believes the project will be well-received.

The village recently started to review its comprehensive land use plan. Nevenhoven said it was important for the village to gain resident input during that process.

"They want a variety of housing options," he said. "I think this will help build that spectrum of housing."

Nevenhoven said he believes the new houses could be built by the year's end if construction start this summer.
