Lions nets 4,000 pounds of food for PRC

WHEATON - The Wheaton Lions Club recently held a successful food drive for People's Resource Center in Wheaton and Carol Stream, raising more than 4,000 pounds of food for the nonprofit.

Nearly 50 local organizations took part in the food drive by accepting donation boxes at their place of business. Wheaton Lions collected the boxes the first week in October and ended up with 4,023 pounds of nonperishable food that was delivered to PRC.

"This hunger drive will help to reach over 160 neighbors in need, right here at our Wheaton pantry," said Jeni Fabian, PRC executive director.

In addition, the Lions donated over $700 to purchase diapers, which Fabian said will help 300 local families.

The new project was part of the Wheaton Lions "Focus on Hunger," which also supports one of the club's primary Pillars of Service in the community. Its other pillars focus on assisting the vision and hearing-impaired, the environment, pediatric cancer and fighting diabetes.
