Report: More than 1,000 jobs eliminated in August by suburban companies

A number of suburban companies are eliminating more than 1,000 jobs due to facility closings and layoffs, according to the August report from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

Companies that employ more than 75 workers are required by law to notify the state agency of impending mass job cuts due to layoffs or facility closures. The August report — known as the WARN report — is published by the agency monthly.

The August numbers include the announcement of 250 jobs being eliminated at Sears' Hoffman Estates headquarters.
