Outdoor dining coming to Hey Nonny in Arlington Heights

Hey Nonny, the music venue/gastropub that opened last fall in downtown Arlington Heights, will join many of its neighbors this summer by offering al fresco dining.

The farm-to-table Midwestern bistro will install seven tables with a total of 22 seats outside its front entrance at 10 S. Vail Ave.

The tables will be alongside the building in an area delineated by planters - still allowing for a 5-foot path of unobstructed sidewalk that is required by village regulations.

Co-owner Chip Brooks said the layout was designed in such a way as to not encourage people to encroach in that path, while an existing tree will also remain in place.

The village board this week approved a three-year license agreement with Hey Nonny, allowing the business use of the public sidewalk from May through October.

Mayor Tom Hayes, who serves as the local liquor commissioner, told owners that alcoholic beverages are not allowed outside the apportioned patio space and that all outdoor activity must end by 11 p.m. nightly.

While the business paid a $150 application fee last fall, it won't have to pay a $115 annual fee for outdoor dining this year. The board agreed last month to waive that fee for all downtown restaurants due to ongoing construction work, some of which will include sidewalk repair.
