Skuddlebutts Pizza marks 80 years

DOWNERS GROVE - Skuddlebutts Pizza and Catering is marking its 80th anniversary this month.

The business began in 1939 when Eddie Gall opened the eatery known as Ed's Tavern on Belmont Road in Downers Grove. The restaurant began serving ham sandwiches at the bar and over the years expanded to offer a full menu.

After many expansions and name changes, it eventually became Skuddlebutts on Ogden Avenue. Known for the "Buy One Get One Free" pizza, the business specializes in high volume pizza orders and catering services.

Skuddlebutts works closely with local schools, churches, and organizations within the community through fundraisers, donations, and community events. The business also works with the high schools through the booster club and other fundraising events, providing slices of Deep Dish Skuddlebutts Pizza at the High School Sporting Events.
