Castellanos to lead Beacon Place

WAUKEGAN - Germain Castellanos has been named executive director of Beacon Place.

Castellanos will assume the day-to-day management of Beacon Place. Retiring Executive Director Barbara LaFasto will assist Castellanos as needed ensuring a smooth transition, and will continue to share her leadership with the board as Beacon Place continues to grow and expand.

Born and raised in Waukegan, Castellanos attended local schools and faced many of the same challenges that the youth in the Waukegan area still experience today. With a bachelor's degree in Public Administration from DePaul University, he has been active in the local community for nearly 15 years, including most recently, leading the SHINE program at Waukegan High School initiating programs for youth aimed at college access, workforce development, and service learning. He was recognized by the White House in 2014 for being a "Champion of Change" in his community.
