Former Advocate Sherman West Court in Elgin sold
Advocate Sherman Hospital sold its Elgin skilled rehab nursing facility - formerly Advocate Sherman West Court, now Avantara Elgin - to Legacy Healthcare, which will invest $2 million in renovations, officials announced.
Plans are under way for Avantara Elgin to introduce "advanced cardiac, neurologic, orthopedic and pulmonary services - current gaps assessed within the Elgin area for post-hospital care," according to a joint news release from the Elgin hospital and Skokie-based Legacy Healthcare.
The facility with 112 beds was the only skilled nursing facility in the Advocate Health Care system. It was built in 1991 by Sherman Hospital, which merged with Advocate in 2013.
Legacy Healthcare, which comprises 29 skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities, "was the best fit for aligning with our organization's health goals and commitment to the community," said Mary Martini, vice president of operations at Advocate Sherman Hospital.
That included meeting the hospital's requirement that "most, if not all" of the 75 staff members would keep their jobs, Martini sad.
The sale took place Oct. 1; Kane County Recorder documents show the gross sale was $5 million.
Renovations at Avantara Elgin will begin early next year, officials said.
"We are excited to welcome Sherman West Court into the Legacy family and to continue to bring new advanced clinical services to this community," said Shai Berdugo, Legacy's chief operating officer.
Legacy has invested in the EksoGT, a hydraulic-fueled rehabilitation device that helps patients stand and walk sooner compared to traditional methods, the release said.
