Deerfield Portillo's offers cake for a buck

Portillo's in Deerfield is celebrating 500 days of business with promotions, including slices of cake for $1.

On Wednesday, July 25, Portillo's at 700 Lake-Cook Road will offer guests $1 slices of chocolate cake with the purchase of any sandwich (including hot dogs), entree salad or ribs. Throughout the day, customers who visit the Deerfield location will enjoy giveaways of Portillo's swag.

As an extra gift to the restaurant's fans, Portillo's will present one lucky winner with free Portillo's for a year.

Every customer who places an online order from the Deerfield location within the month of July will be entered for a chance to win free Portillo's for a year.

Customers can order directly to their home by visiting portillos.com or via Portillo's dedicated app, available for download online via iTunes or Android.

Portillos will donate 20 percent of online orders from the month of July (up to $2,500) to Kipling Elementary School in Deerfield to benefit the Meghan Bolon Outdoor Learning Center.

Known for its hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, and chocolate cake, Portillo's dates from 1963, when Dick Portillo opened the first Portillo's hot dog stand in Villa Park, which he called "The Dog House." Years later, Portillo's has grown to include restaurants in more than 50 locations across several states.
