Historic Wilmette shopping center sold

Mid-America Real Estate Corp. said it brokered the sale of the historic Plaza Del Lago in Wilmette.

The acquisition of the 100,213 -square-foot property was purchased by a publicly traded REIT.

Plaza Del Lago is located at the northwest corner of Sheridan Road and Westerfield Drive. The center opened in 1928 as Spanish Court and has been reported as the second-oldest shopping center in the United States.

The iconic grocery-anchored town center, located on the North Shore, features a lineup of anchors including Jewel Osco, Starbucks, CVS, NorthShore University HealthSystem and Starbucks. The center also caters to a variety of local boutique restaurants, retailers and service providers.

Mid-America Real Estate Corporation's Principals Ben Wineman and Stan Nitzberg, along with Investment Sales Financial Analysis Director Chris Martin were the exclusive brokers in the transaction on behalf of Plaza Del Lagos longtime family ownership.
