Lake Zurich panel to weigh Kmart redevelopment plan

Lake Zurich's Planning and Zoning Commission on Wednesday will consider a proposal to redevelop the former Kmart property at 225 S. Rand Road with 162 apartments and approximately 19,000 square feet of commercial space, including restaurant space.

After the commission weighs in on the proposal from developer Garden Homes, the project likely will be presented to the village board for final approval by the end of this year. More information on the redevelopment is available at LakeZurich.org.

Also Wednesday, the commission will consider a proposal from Evermore Homes to develop the approximately 5-acre property on the northwest corner of Miller Road and Brierwoods Lane with a new eight-lot residential subdivision to be known as Whispering Trails The project will require approval as a planned unit development due to the need for setback variations on some lots.

The commission meets at 6:30 p.m. at village hall, 70 E. Main St. The meeting also will be streamed live on the village's Facebook page.
