Sodick builds new headquarters in Schaumburg

Sodick Inc., a global equipment maker for the dies and molds industry, will build a new North American headquarters in Schaumburg with a high-end showroom for customers.

The building will be completed by late fall and workers will move in starting in December.

Billed as the "Ferrari of showrooms," it features high-end finishes, such as quartz floors, and extra large windows for more natural light, said Matt Grusecki, senior vice president of Schiller Park-based Northern Builders Inc., which starts construction in about a week. A groundbreaking ceremony was held last week.

Sodick had offices on Penny Lane for about 12 years. The new headquarters will be at 601 Commerce Drive and provide about 40,000 square feet for offices, engineering operations and a warehouse.

Sodick received a 50 percent reduction in property tax over 10 years from the village and Cook County, said Sodick General Manager Kevin Yamada.

The company has 80 local employees and plans to hire another 10 employees, Yamada said.

Sodick, which is based in Japan, has more than 3,200 employees worldwide. The North American company also has offices in Yorba Linda, California, and Rockaway, New Jersey, the company website said.
