Posh medical spa specializes in popular anti-aging treatments

Jennifer Cunningham enjoys watching her customers when they leave.

Some sneak a peek in the mirror and smile. Others just smile.

Their reason for those smiles? Chances are, Cunningham or others at her spa have helped turn back the hands of time.

"We can erase several years from people," Cunningham said.

Cunningham recently opened her own version of a fountain of youth -- Posh Antiaging Retreat & Medspa at 8 Richards St. in Geneva. She and her partner, Dr. Alex Kim, offer a variety of skin treatments to help erase wrinkles, eliminate fat pockets and rejuvenate the skin.

But this isn't your typical spa. It's a medical spa -- complete with a physician and a physician's assistant to administer some of the treatments.

"We have very experienced and licensed professionals," Cunningham said.

Cunningham, a physician's assistant, has been practicing since 1998. She first met her future business partner at some advanced training courses. The duo decided to open up the med spa together.

Cunningham said she "gravitated" toward the aesthetics field because of the results she sees when people don't see those crow's feet or smile lines anymore.

"We restore people's confidence and put a little swing in their step," she said. "It's fun to see their reactions when they leave."

Some of the procedures available at the spa include Botox treatments and dermal fillers, both used to help bring "volume" back to the face. Such treatments help fill in those smile areas or add volume to other areas, such as the lip.

Kim, a practicing ear, nose and throat specialist, typically works with the dermal fillers, which are injected into the skin.

Both Kim and Cunningham note that such procedures are less invasive than plastic surgery and can produce similar results without the downtime that comes with surgery.

Other treatments at the spa include medical microdermabrasion, body scrubs, facials and body wraps. The spa also carries a line of organic skin products.

Though the spa celebrated its grand opening in November, Cunningham and Kim are already pleased with the response they've seen.

"We've had some great support from people," Kim said.

Cunningham said the spa plans to add a massage therapist in the near future. Laser skin treatments also may be added in the future, Cunningham said.

Treatments at the spa range from $18 for a lip wax up to $750 to $1,200 for some of the injectable skin treatments.

Posh is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The spa can be reached by calling (630) 262-0288 or visiting the Web site at www.poshretreat.com
