Hainesville man charged in Gurnee killing

This report has been corrected to say the fatal shooting occurred Nov. 27, 2021.

A Hainesville man has been charged in the 2021 murder of a Zion man in Gurnee.

Jesse Zumaya, 33, was arrested July 26, Gurnee police said in a news release Tuesday.

Jonathan Denicolas, 26, died after suffering multiple gunshot wounds the afternoon of Nov. 27 in a parking lot near Gurnee Mills mall.

Investigators said at the time that they believed Denicolas was targeted.

An arrest warrant for Zumaya was issued on May 26. He's being held in the Lake County jail on $3 million bail and has an Aug. 25 court date.
