Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois appoint Rockwell as CEO

SOUTH ELGIN - Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois said Kari Rockwell has been appointed new CEO of the organization. Rockwell will succeed current CEO Fiona Cummings and assume responsibilities on Aug. 1. Cummings has served as the organization's CEO since 2013 and will be retiring on June 30.

Rockwell brings decades of educational leadership to her new position at GSNI. Formerly the superintendent of schools at Fieldcrest Community Unit School District 6 in Minonk, Rockwell also previously held principal positions at the Kiefer School at Children's Home Association of Illinois in Peoria, and Cumberland County Schools in Crossville, Tennessee.

Rockwell also brings significant nonprofit grant experience to GSNI having supported grant writing resulting in $5 million earned in the last 12 months alone.

Rockwell received an doctorate in educational leadership from the University of the Cumberlands in 2017, a master's degree in education/administration and supervision from the University of Phoenix in June 2009, a master's in education/curriculum and instruction from University of Phoenix in June 2008, and a bachelor's degree in history from California State University at Long Beach in 2001.

More recently, she received a WEEK Women in Leadership Award in 2021.
