Lake County Forest Preserve officer injured in Lincolnshire crash

A Lake County Forest Preserve police officer suffered serious injuries in a crash at the intersection of routes 21 and 22 in Lincolnshire Friday night while responding to an emergency call.

Investigators believe the officer, whose name has not been released, was heading eastbound in his forest preserve police Ford Explorer SUV on Route 22 to help with an emergency call around 6:30 p.m. when he was struck by a driver in a Nissan Rogue SUV, Lincolnshire police Cmdr. Kimberly Covelli said Monday.

Covelli said the driver of the Nissan suffered minor injuries from the crash but the officer needed to be hospitalized at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. The officer was released from the hospital later Friday evening, Covelli said.

The crash closed the road to traffic in the area until 10 p.m., Covelli said.

Covelli said the investigation is ongoing and the driver of the Nissan has not been cited yet.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Lincolnshire police.
