Train, vehicle collide in downtown Arlington Heights

A Metra train collided with an SUV Monday morning in downtown Arlington Heights, briefly snarling traffic in the area, authorities said.

The crash at the intersection of Arlington Heights Road and Northwest Highway occurred about 9:50 a.m. when the westbound commuter train struck the front of the vehicle, officials said.

There was no report regarding injuries from authorities, though the initial report was dispatched as a traffic crash with injuries. Metra police did not reply to a request for comment Monday.

Arlington Heights Road was closed to southbound traffic for about an hour while Metra and Union Pacific Railroad personnel conducted repairs to the train, which had minor damage. Northbound traffic was open but backed up at the intersection, and trains were delayed in both directions.
