Man shot while mowing lawn in North Chicago

A man was shot and killed while mowing his lawn early Monday afternoon in North Chicago.

At 1:25 p.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired on the 1000 block of Jackson Street and found the 49-year-old victim critically injured, North Chicago police said.


According to a preliminary investigation from the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, the man was mowing his lawn when someone inside a passing vehicle began shooting.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he died. The Lake County coroner's office plans an autopsy.

The shooting is under investigation. Authorities ask that anyone with information call North Chicago police at (847) 596-8774 or Lake County Crime Stoppers at (847) 662-2222.
