Man shot while mowing lawn in North Chicago

A man was shot and killed while mowing his lawn early Monday afternoon in North Chicago.

At 1:25 p.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired on the 1000 block of Jackson Street and found the 49-year-old victim critically injured, North Chicago police said.

According to a preliminary investigation from the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, the man was mowing his lawn when someone inside a passing vehicle began shooting.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he died. The Lake County coroner's office plans an autopsy.
