District 214 students awarded culinary scholarship for sweet and savory baked goods

A peach and strawberry scone made by students at Rolling Meadows High School, and an everything bagel babka baked by Elk Grove High School students, were the respective winning sweet and savory items in a culinary competition in Arlington Heights.

State Sen. Ann Gillespie, Northwest Suburban High School District 214, Harper College, the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce and Arlington Heights Memorial Library co-hosted the first Great District 214 Culinary Competition Bake-Off Friday at the library's new Makerplace.

The contestants were students in District 214's Culinary Arts ProStart Career Pathway program. Judges included the Arlington Heights Democratic legislator and local restaurant chefs and owners involved in the pathway program.

The winning teams from Rolling Meadows and Elk Grove high schools will share a combined $10,000 scholarship to Harper's Hospitality Management program.
