Lake County inmate charged with attacking correctional officer

A Lake County jail inmate is facing a felony charge after officials say he battered a female correctional officer in February.

Larry Hall, 37, is charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer stemming from the attack that occurred during a Feb. 23 confrontation outside his cell, authorities said.

Lake County sheriff's Deputy Chief Chris Covelli said that after the officer attempted speak with Hall that day, he left his jail cell and took a swing at her face. The officer moved out of the way, avoiding the blow, and Hall lost his balance and fell to the ground, Covelli said.

The officer attempted to handcuff Hall, who responded by kicking and hitting her with his fists, leaving her with minor injuries, authorities said.

The officer then used pepper spray on Hall, and a few other correctional officers helped her restrain him, Covelli said.

Hall was in the jail on a charge of being a fugitive from justice stemming from a parole violation in Wisconsin. The process of extraditing Hall to Wisconsin is ongoing, but Covelli said it could be delayed now that a felony charge has been filed against him in Lake County.

Hall did not tell Lake County authorities where his permanent residence is, Covelli added.

He is next due in court April 12.
