Lombard man faces cocaine, gun charges

A Lombard man has been charged with manufacturing or delivering cocaine and unlawful possession of a controlled substance after the drug overdose death of a woman in Lombard.

Bail was set at $250,000 Friday for Amasa B. Sinclair, 36, of the 2700 block of South Highland Avenue.

When he was arrested Thursday by Lombard police, officers found 44 grams of crack cocaine on him, Willis said.

Sinclair is also charged with armed violence because when Lombard police officers searched his car, they allegedly found a loaded semi-automatic pistol in the driver's area.

Sinclair does have a concealed carry license and a firearm owners identification card, according to a public defender who represented him at bond call before DuPage County Judge Michael Reidy. The defender said Sinclair is a self-employed truck driver and does general contracting work.

DuPage County Assistant State's Attorney Rob Willis told Reidy that police investigating the woman's March 23 death found "narcotics-related" text messages between her and Sinclair on two cellphones police found in her house.

Undercover officers then contacted Sinclair from those phones, asking to buy 20 grams of cocaine, the prosecutor said.
