Avon Township reopens food pantry

Donations are being sought for a food pantry being reopened at the Avon Township offices, 433 E. Washington St., Round Lake Park. A food pantry had been operating there but was closed and moved last May. The new operation is opening in collaboration with Community Action Partnership of Lake County. Residents, civic, business and youth groups, schools and clubs are being asked to contribute nonperishable food items to help build a reserve for the first mobile pantry event from 10 a.m. to noon on the first and third Saturdays of every month beginning March 19. Donated food, such as like noodles, cereals, soups, peanut butter or cooking oil, cannot require refrigeration. Laundry detergent, shampoo, razors, toilet paper, toothpaste and similar items also are being sought. Volunteers also are needed for the mobile events.
